Description
The meaning behind the myth of Icarus, for me, is about humans yearning for the unlimited joy of flight. A release, to feel weightless and to be totally liberated – leaving all your troubles behind!
It’s also about the unattainable promise – the wings that once glimmered with the hope of escape, are now just tattered remnants. It’s about coming back down to Earth, where you get to face the (sometimes) harsh reality of life – responsibilities, dealing with your burdens and being accountable.
A different kind of freedom comes with being in balance with the slurry of everyday life.
When do you feel free and how do you express it?
I feel free when I’m experiencing creativity, especially when I’m making art but I still have to break out of my self imposed mental constraints.
I feel free when I sit down outside a bar, when I know I can let go and let the evening unfold – saying anything I like!
I love this quote, though I don’t know where it’s from. “Your freedom ends where another’s begins.”
