Have you ever been anywhere like Cordoba, Spain, to see the 10th-century Mosque? It is an impressive example of early Moorish architecture that blew me away.
This loosely painted oil painting is a reflection of my experience of walking around the vast main hall of the Mosque. I painted it from memory and it’s not an accurate rendition of any part in particular. I like that the little smudges look like people and they give the arches scale.
I paint in oils because of the vivid colours and lightfastness. I have used a dry-brush technique to build up the layers of colour. I have also used some light gold paint on the top of the arches to make this painting even more sumptuous.
