Description

The original oil was a commissioned painting, which I painted on site in the Andalucian landscape, during a very hot July. I had to take the large canvas indoor in the end because my shade kept blowing away and the canvas kept trying to sail off with it. I was based on a roof terrace looking down the valley with a small room behind. I had to keep running in and out, to a certain point on the roof terrace where I took all my measurements from. I like working from life because if I hadn’t been out there the whole time, then I would have never seen the horse walking up the road or be able to make decisions about certain trees that I could just go out and look straight at.
