El Afilador is a spiritual art film adapted from a poem by Suzy Jones. The film was commissioned and directed by Suzy Jones and was filmed and edited by Emma Plunkett. It follows a day in the life of a knife grinder, which is one of the dying trades in Andalucia, Spain. The character of the knife grinder demonstrates throughout the film the Buddhist principle of non attachment, not even to life itself! The film celebrates the rawness of life in Spain, the details that pass us by unnoticed, the dryness, the textures and the sensuality.
